After a year of construction, the long-awaited inauguration of the Hotel Altiplánico, located three blocks from the town of San Pedro de Atacama, took place on June 29.
Juan d'Etigny and Maite Susaeta, owners of the hotel, define it as a place "to reflect and feel the immensity of the desert," because the architecture does not interfere with the scenery, and it evokes the settlements of the highland peoples.

Only local materials were used in the construction of its 16 individual rooms, each with a private terrace and bathroom, including adobe, beams from a local tree called the chañar, pitch, and straw. Guests will also be able to enjoy a lovely pool with a spectacular view of the Andes and its volcanoes.
The hotel owners say the motivation for the project was basically "the love we feel for this place and the fact we didn't want to lose the connection we had established and were wasting by staying in Santiago all the time." They add that the hotel's main characteristic is its warm, personal style that puts the service and comfort of its guests first.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy an excellent coffee shop; internet room; meeting room; free bicycles; parking, boutique, and flexible checkout hours.
The architectural design of the hotel - according to Maite Susaeta - was to "create a place to lodge the tourist in a space that is a prolongation of the sights he has seen. A place that enables him to reflect on what he has seen. Definitively, a space that invites contemplation."
