Historic inauguration
Dances and canticles formed part of the expected ribbon cut of the new facilities for travelers constructed in the Geysers of El Tatio, a place located at 90km. from San Pedro de Atacama.
The inauguration event counted with the participation of authorities of the region such as the intendant, Jorge Molina, and the mayor of the district, Arturo Molina, who shared together with tens of tourists and inhabitants of surrounding towns.
Infrastructure is comprised by the administration office, public toilets facilities, access control, nursery room, kitchen - dining room and a minibus too. The communities of Toconce and Caspana will be in charge of these facilities. They, through their representatives, will be responsible for the administration and organization in said services.
The construction project was implemented with resources contributed by Conadi, Sernatur and the mining companies El Abra, Codelco Norte and Meridian.
El Tatio is one of the most enchanting landscapes of Region II, and why not of the north of the country, where important fumaroles emerge to the surface through fissures of the terrestrial bark, reaching a temperature of 85º C and about ten meters of height. This magnificent spectacle achieves its maximum expression during the first hours of the morning, between 6 and 7 hours, with temperatures bellow zero.
These extremely low temperatures in addition to the large number of tourists, who arrived year after year to the zone, encouraged native people of the sector and authorities to count on a full equipped tourism complex to properly receive thousands of national and foreign visitors.
